Don't Just Dream About an Exciting New Career...Make it Happen!

Are you sick and tired of working at a dull, unfulfilling job that leaves you exhausted and miserable at the end of the day?  Have you always wanted to explore your passions, unlock your creative side, or just work at a career that challenges you and makes you look forward to Mondays, not Fridays?

Don't worry, you're not alone!

Studies indicate that the average college graduate today will have 7 to 10 careers in his or her lifetime.  The days of working for one  company for 40 years and then retiring from that same company with a hefty pension are a thing of the past.

Many people have come to realize that the corporate world is not all it's cracked up to be. Long hours, stress, office politics, co-workers that gossip behind your back, a boss that does nothing but criticize your efforts...  This isn't the life most of us dreamed of when we were growing up and imagining how our adult lives would be.

That's why many are taking the bold move of switching gears, and leaving their dull careers behind.  They've choosing to pursue a lifelong passion, a business opportunity, charity work, or turn their favorite hobby into their profession.

Have you ever wondered how many great novels were never written, how many beautiful paintings were never painted, and how many wonderful songs were never composed, because so many talented people were stuck in jobs that didn't mesh with their talents?  We all have gifts, and it's a shame that so many people never get a chance to exploit those gifts in a meaningful way.

So what's your dream career?

Everyone has one. For some it's an exciting modeling career, for others it's acting, or music, or the arts.  Still others yearn to be tour guides,  novelists, wedding planners, pilots or photographers. A dream career can even be something as ordinary as owning your own business, or working at home and watching your children grow up.

The reasons people pursue a new career are many, including:

  • working professionals who were caught in a corporate downsizing or are about to be laid off.

  • young people searching for a first career that they will find challenging and personally rewarding.

  • older workers who are reaching traditional retirement age, but who want to continue working--in the career of their choice.

  • currently employed workers who are unsatisfied with their careers, for a whole host of reasons.

And for many workers, more money or higher status are not the primary goals of their career search. Studies have shown that what motivates people is rewarding, challenging work; the opportunity to be creative and in charge of their own destiny; to be recognized for their accomplishments; and a chance to help others and make a difference in the world.

Perhaps you've thought of making the leap into a new career, but didn't know where to start. Leaving the comfort zone of a steady job and a steady paycheck can be frightening, especially with a family to support and a mortgage to pay off. And going back to school to get a degree can take years, cost thousands of dollars, with no guarantee of coming out the other side with the career--and life--you've been yearning for.

That's why I built this site

My name is Kent Johnson, and for years I worked at jobs I didn't much care for, dreaming of the day I could pursue my real passions--writing, publishing, and career coaching. I eventually took the plunge, and I've never looked back. The rewards of working for myself, having control of my own destiny, and doing something I love are immeasurable, and I intend to spend the rest of my life following my own path--not someone else's.

I finally found my dream career, and I'd like to help
   you find yours, too.

It's my hope that the articles and other content on this site will educate you, inspire you, and get you moving in the right direction.  I know how hard (and scary) it can be to make a career change.  You need a plan, a strategy for getting where you want to go, and the education and  finances in place to make it happen.  Many people choose to work their dream job part-time, learning the ropes and making important contacts before making the jump into a full-time career.

But if you want a new career more than anything, and you're willing to work hard and put your full effort into making it happen, I have no  doubt that you'll soon be looking forward to Mondays, too.

Life really is short, and to spend your time working at a job or career that makes you miserable is a tragedy.  The opportunity to do something you really love may only come along once.  So start planning now, set the wheels in motion, and before long you too will be making your escape into the career of your dreams.

Go ahead and sign up for the newsletter, or check out the "Dream Career News'" blog.  There's lots of great information about interviewing, career discovery, education, and other resources.  And if you've already made the jump to a new career, and you'd like to share your success story with us, just use the contact us form and we'll try and post it as soon as possible.

To your new career success,

Kent
